First Friday

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Today is the first friday of the month. This week was crazy and very very hectic. Had three deadlines today! Everything went well and am a bit relaxed now. Will try to chill off, rest today and get back to work from tomorrow.

Have a great weekend, everybody!

p.s. One movie I am looking forward to is "The Da Vinci Code". It will be released on May 19 2006. The trailer is really cool. Have not read the book yet. It's still on my To-Read list.

Happy New Year 2006!

Time flies. I never realized. A lot of things have happened since then (8/8/2002); some for better, some for worse.

Today is also the start of a new phase in my life. It is going to be very busy for the next one and half years. I hope it will be worth the effort. Time will tell.

p.s. This message is cryptic on purpose :)

Cheiraoba 2005

| | Comments (1) | TrackBacks (0)

Today is the Manipuri New Year (Cheiraoba). In Manipur, there are two Cheiraobas.

The first one is Sajibu Cheiraoba or Meitei Cheiraoba which is held on the first day of the month of Sajibu. This year, it was on April 9th which also matched the other Indian new years of Ugadi (Telugu) and Gudi Padava (Gujrati).

The second one is today (April 14th) and it matches Baisakhi (North India). Cheiraoba is actually the last day of the year. Technically, tomorrow (April 15th) is the start of the new year. Tomorrow is Poila Baisakh (Bengali), Rongali Bihu (Assamese) and Vishu (Malayali).

Called up Baba and Mama, Tamo, Iteima Remika, Dada, Iteima Mona, Cheche Bheman, Cheche Naobi, Sne.

Yesterday, it rained heavily. But today, the sun shined bright and the day was really beautiful. Spring is finally here! Here are some photos taken today at UT:

Best wishes to everybody out there.

This is my first post of the year. :)
And guess what, I LOVE Waffle House! Especially the hashbrowns and the cheese omeletes! :) :)

Also, see this small forward that I got from one of my friends. I think it is pretty nice.

Some people read "i.e." as "eye eee" and some others (me included) read it as "that is". Did a quick search on dictionary.com and found that "i.e." stands for "id est" which is Latin for "that is". Now, I know! :)

Nigritude Ultramarine - Single Post Wins Google Contest [from Wired.com]

Very interesting article.

Anil Dash won the second, and final, round of the two-month SEO Challenge, which called on webmasters and site owners to use any method at their disposal to score the top Google ranking for a made-up term, "nigritude ultramarine."

Dash's strategy differed greatly from that of the first-round winner, named a month ago, who claimed his victory through the use of backlinking, a technique in which the required words on other people's sites were hyperlinked back to his site.

Mother's Day

Today is Mother's Day. Called up home at about 8 am IST. Talked with Mama, Baba, Tamo, Iteima.

----------
The Images of Mother
4 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mommy can do anything!
8 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!
12 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.
14 YEARS OF AGE ~ Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either.
16 YEARS OF AGE ~ Mother? She's hopelessly old fashioned.
18 YEARS OF AGE ~ That old woman? She's way out of date!
25 YEARS OF AGE ~ Well, she might know a little bit about it.
35 YEARS OF AGE ~ Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.
45 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?
65 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wish I could talk it over with Mom.
----------

Today was the last episode of "Friends". It was two hours long (8 pm to 10 pm Eastern).

Also watched the cast of Friends on Jay Lenno's The Tonight Show.

The 2004 Computer Science ACM banquet sponsored by Silicon Graphics was held at the University Center Ballroom. I think this is the first time that the banquet is being held outside the Department. The function started at 12 pm and ended around 1:15 pm. It was a nice function and the food was good. I was the official CS Dept photographer. Farial was the official ACM photographer. Photos will be online soon. Do check back later.

Photos are available here. Used Express Thumbnail Creator to generate the album. A short write-up about the event is available here.

Monday afternoon

Just adding this entry because my blog page looks blank!

Today is Monday. Not doing anything much at present. Feeling a bit hungry. Maybe I will have some Maggi. How I hate cooking food!

Lot of stuff to do.

Manish just came and went out again for office work. Milk, Orange Juice and Eggs are over. Guess, I have to go to Bi-Lo tonight.

Officially launched maisnam.com today. It is now my portfolio website. The speciality of the site is that it uses a auto-generated menu.

Saumil and Jaya's marriage was held today at HCC. Had a nice time there. Took some video and lots of photos. Here is one photo and another one here.

Watched "Ek Hasina Thi" on DVD. It's a great movie! Saif and Urmila's acting was superb! Here is a review from IndiaFM.

Learnt about local access calling cards. Tried one from callnation. Call quality was pretty good. Since they don't have local access numbers for Knoxville, I tried a number in Athens, GA. Only drawback is that you always need to call from a cellphone if you want the reduced rates. (Of course, you can call from a landline but then you have to pay the long distance charges upto the local access number. And that makes no sense!)
